Conferences

Let's all work hard to make year 11 - for you - a year to remember

Year 11 is one of the most important years of your life.

What happens in year 11 will impact your life - probably for the rest of your life.

Conferences

  • What are they?

Throughout the academic year the academy will host two conferences a week on a Monday and Tuesday, 15:45pm- 16:45pm.

These conferences will be hosted by a subject specialist and the lecture, resources and models presented to students will all be at least a GCSE grade 9. These conferences are a fantastic opportunity for you to absorb higher tier core knowledge in great detail. The content of the conferences will be aspirational, and the format will give you a taste of what it is like to be a student beyond secondary education. If you have ideas of getting the top grades, these conferences are a must for you.

  • Why should you go?

It is statistically proven that students who regularly attend various styles of learning sessions will retain more information over an extended period and their results can and will vastly improve if they engage effectively.

Students who begin revising and completing regular study sessions earlier feel more confident going into the exam, have more time to cover lots of topics in great detail, and have plenty of time to interleave and build prior knowledge and develop exam techniques.

Attending conferences will provide you with information and resources which you will not access in lessons or Focus sessions.

  • What is expected of me during a conference?

When you attend a conference, you should bring

notepad, stationery and your lever arch folder to file away any resources provided by the presenter. You should not ask questions during the conference; instead, if you have a question, you should make a note of it, and if it is not answered before the Q and A section you will have an opportunity to ask it then.

A register of attendance will be taken for Conferences and Focus sessions (more information regarding Focus sessions will be sent to you very soon); for every Conference attended you will receive 5 House points, and for most Conferences and Focus sessions attended your name will be placed in a hat and names will be drawn to win a free ticket to the Prom. This will occur termly! (If your parent has already purchased your Prom ticket by that point the academy will refund them the money for the ticket)
