Parents and carers may be aware that the government has asked academies to run 'summer schools' to help students who may have suffered lost learning during lockdown.
Of course, year 6 students have also not had a chance to visit our academy to ease their transition from primary to secondary life.
We are therefore running our year 6 into year 7 transition summer school during the week commencing 16th August.
During this week, we will teach some English and Maths, put on arts and sports activities and allow students to make friends, get used to the facilities and prepare for life at the academy. Our preference is that students attend every day to get the full programme but where that is not possible, students may attend on some days only.
Each day starts at 10.00 AM and finishes at 3.00 PM. (Except on Friday when the day finishes at 1.00 PM.) Students should attend in their primary school sports kit and bring a drink, a packed lunch and a pencil case with stationery. Please note that the academy does not allow sports or energy drinks. Since we are a secondary academy, parents should be aware that we will release students freely at the end of the day (rather than hold students and deliver students to parents (as would be the case in a primary school.) Parents and carers should make arrangements to ensure that their child can get to and from the academy safely.
If you would like your child to attend the transition summer school, please complete the attached form by midnight 19th July. Please note that transition summer school is only open to students who have enrolled with the academy for a September 2021 start. Please ensure that all induction forms have been completed.
If there are any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the academy on 01375 802060 or e mail firstname.lastname@example.org
We look forward to meeting your child in August or if not in September!
Join The Summer School!!
The academy is running a transition week summer school during the week commencing 16th August. The week is a chance for students to 'catch up' with some lost learning, particularly in English and Maths, meet new friends, get used to some of the facilities at Harris Academy Riverside and gain confidence about starting at the academy. The week will include sports and physical activities, expressive arts and academic lessons.
