Teaching & Learning
"Teachers plan lessons to build on what I have already learnt in my prep work. It means that teachers spend longer on more difficult concepts and can also have more focus on exam practice" Year 13 student
At HARI Sixth Form, just as in the lower school, knowledge is power – we make it stick.
Our teachers carefully design the curriculum so that every student can thrive within the framework of their chosen A Levels.
In lessons, powerful knowledge is always at the heart of learning. Students are offered a variety of engaging approaches to help them access this knowledge and, most importantly, to ensure it stays with them.
Students complete 'prep' before their lessons, allowing them to come to lesson knowing and understanding the basics of topics. At the beginning of each lesson, teachers then assess their understanding of the prep work, which enables them to pitch the lesson at an appropriate level, and allows students to access higher order skills (such as analysis and evaluation) more confidently and earlier in the lesson.
Alongside this, teachers dedicate ample time to exam practice while also encouraging paired and group work. This balance not only prepares students for assessments but also develops the vital soft skills that are highly valued by universities in 2025 and beyond.
