Homework

Knowledge is Power. We Make it Stick.

At Harris Academy Riverside, homework is a key tool to help students consolidate and deepen their learning. It allows them to revisit and reinforce topics, skills, and knowledge from lessons, supporting long-term memory through regular practice and recall. Teachers use homework data to identify learning gaps and tailor support for individual students.

Homework Expectations

All students will be set homework each week, in line with their homework timetable. Homework will predominantly be set on the online platform Educake, and students will have one week to complete each task.

In addition to Educake, students are expected to complete:

  • Bedrock Literacy: Weekly tasks focused on grammar and vocabulary
  • Sparx Maths: Weekly personalised maths homework
  • Educake Subject Homework: Weekly recall quizzes for each subject

Students in Key Stage 4 will also receive additional homework tasks from their class teachers to support their GCSE preparation.

Key Stage 5: Homework will remain rooted in wider reading, independent study, and coursework, preparing students for university and employment.

Support Available

  • Homework Club will be available for students, providing a quiet space and access to computers for students who need support or time to complete their homework.
  • Computer rooms will be used for homework detentions, allowing students to complete any outstanding work.

Tracking, Rewards & Sanctions

All homework platforms are centrally tracked across the academy.

Rewards:

  • Positive points for completed homework
  • These points can be cashed in for prizes throughout the year

  • Regular completion builds good habits and contributes to students’ overall success

Sanctions:

  • Incomplete homework will result in a detention
  • Two missed homework tasks in one week = 45 minute detention on Friday after school

  • Detentions will take place in a computer room, allowing students to complete any outstanding work
