Harris Academies
All Academies in our Federation aim to transform the lives of the students they serve by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results, personal development and aspiration.

Ensuring that the academy works well

We are confident that our new academy will provide the best experience and the most outstanding education for its students.

Teachers and training

As well as appointing new teachers, Harris Academy Riverside is able to draw upon the expertise of teachers already trained at our sister academy and through the Harris Federation Teaching Schools. This is invaluable and rare for a new academy since these teachers will bring GCSE and A level expertise to a year seven cohort. Equally the teachers of our new academy can take advantage of experiences and training which would  not otherwise be available to them.

Senior Leadership

The new academy is led by Andrew Betts (Head of Academy.) Nicola Graham is Executive Principal. Mr. Betts and Mrs. Graham are the two longest standing members of the senior team which is responsible for the leadership of our sister academy Harris Academy Chafford Hundred which has been the highest performing school in Thurrock for some years and consstently around the top 1% of non selective secondary schools in the country.

Our new academy therefore builds on the standards, ideas, routines and processes which have created such success.

The Harris Federation

Our new academy is part of the Harris Federation. The Federation advises and monitors continuously the planning, leadership and management of its new academies long before they are open and continues to do so throughout its life. During the first year of the new academy every aspect of the academy including the progress and happiness of its students will be reviewed by a visiting team of independent experts appointed by the Harris Federation.

OFSTED will conduct a monitoring visit to scrutinise the academy's plans before it opens in September. OFSTED will visit again after approximately two years and publish a report which is available to the public.
