Focus Sessions

Year 11 is one of the most important years of your life.

What happens in year 11 will impact your life - probably for the rest of your life.

Let's all work hard to make it - for you - a year to remember.

Focus Sessions:

  • What are they?

Focus sessions are a programme which will run throughout the academic year, and will take place Mondays, Tuesdays and every Friday from 14:00 to 15:30 and will grow as we get closer to the GCSE examinations. These sessions are aimed at specific individuals or small groups with an intended outcome based on a need identified in their subject. For example, if you are struggling at answering Language Paper 1, Question 3 you would be asked to attend one or more Focus sessions until that is no longer the case.

  • Why should I go?

These sessions are specifically aimed at your gaps in knowledge and understanding in specific areas. You will not be invited to every session that takes place (unless you were currently working below target across the board which is extremely unlikely.) So, if you want to improve your grades, you will want to attend. Gaps in your core knowledge will hold you back in other areas and so if you are invited, you must attend.

  • What is expected of me during a focus session?

Focus sessions are intense learning sessions in which the teacher will go over one specific area of core knowledge, or one specific question. You will be expected to be actively engaged, asking and answering questions, making notes, and completing any practice tasks the teacher provides you with. These are for your benefit.

A register of attendance will be taken for Focus sessions and in most Focus sessions attended your name will be placed in a hat and names will be drawn to win a free ticket to the Prom. This will occur termly! (If your parent has already purchased your Prom ticket by this point the academy will refund them the money for the ticket.)
