Science

At Harris Academy Riverside our science curriculum focusses first and foremost on developing a passion for science amongst our students; to generate curiosity so they want to know more about the impact of science in the wider world. A wide range of topics and activities that satisfies the requirements of the National Curriculum for KS3 as well as specifications for KS4 and KS5, provides our students access to a wealth of knowledge and information that will enable them to become scientifically literate and enable all students to be continual learners.

Students will have the ability to write scientifically and articulate scientific knowledge at length and as such our curriculum offers our students the opportunities to gain a deep and broad knowledge of our exciting, innovative, and ever-changing subject. We plan the content of our curriculum so that knowledge builds in a logical sequence, step by step, not just with other science topics but with cross curricular themes which arise in subjects such as PE and PSHE.

Our curriculum allows students to develop a range of knowledge and skills, including scientific enquiry, literacy, numeracy, debate, and evaluation. At the same time these skills are enhanced through continuous learning of scientific vocabulary through prep and the use of recall quizzes throughout the academic year.

By mastering all knowledge and skills we will ensure that our students are able to understand the diversity of the natural phenomena around them; they will use their skills to be able to evaluate claims and make educated decisions. This will ensure that all pupils will be able to enter the world of work and adapt to an ever increasingly technological society.
